Actions to End Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC)

The Actions to End Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) program is a vital initiative undertaken by Disability Relief Services Tanzania (DRS-Tz) with the overarching goal of creating a safer and more just world for women and children. Through this program, we are committed to addressing and ultimately ending violence against women and children in all its forms.

Program Objectives:

  1. Prevention: Our primary objective is to prevent violence against women and children by raising awareness, promoting gender equality, and challenging harmful societal norms and attitudes that perpetuate violence.

  2. Protection: We aim to provide protection and support to victims and survivors of violence, ensuring their safety and well-being through access to shelter, legal assistance, counseling, and other essential services.

  3. Empowerment: We empower women and children to assert their rights, build resilience, and access opportunities for personal and economic empowerment, thereby reducing their vulnerability to violence and exploitation.

Key Actions:

  1. Awareness Campaigns: We conduct awareness campaigns and community outreach programs to educate the public about the prevalence and consequences of violence against women and children, as well as the importance of gender equality and respect for human rights.

  2. Capacity Building: We provide training and capacity-building workshops for community leaders, law enforcement agencies, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to enhance their knowledge and skills in preventing and responding to violence.

  3. Advocacy: We advocate for policy changes and legal reforms that strengthen protections for women and children, improve access to justice, and hold perpetrators of violence accountable for their actions.

  4. Support Services: We offer a range of support services for victims and survivors of violence, including crisis intervention, counseling, medical assistance, legal aid, and access to safe shelters.

  5. Community Mobilization: We engage communities in grassroots efforts to address the root causes of violence, promote gender equality, and foster social norms that reject violence and discrimination.
